How will residents help to “design the programming”?
Every future resident will fill out a survey with their likes, interests, wants, health concerns etc. This gives insights on common connections within the community as well as opportunities to seek out beneficial partnerships. Residents will also have the support of Brookland Commons to facilitate any desired activity, interest group or programming that they would like to see or share with their fellow neighbors. Imagine hosting your favorite local artist to come teach watercolor to 20 of your closest friends and neighbors in an art studio steps outside of your living room! The 24,000 square feet of common space is there to be enjoyed and considered as an extension of your home. These surveys will also help us seek out meaningful connections with local health providers to keep you living healthy in your apartment, longer!
How much will it cost to live at Brookland Commons?
Brookland Commons pricing is structured to be within reach for those older adults who aren’t comfortable with current market options. As a not-for-profit, we are motivated to expand community living options to a greater number of older adults. Pricing will start in the low 100s.
Will I own my home?
No. There is no ownership involved, and you won’t be responsible for fixing up and selling your apartment when you leave. The Legacy Share will be partially refundable to you or your estate when you leave.
How is Brookland Commons different than a Life Plan Community or CCRC?
Brookland Commons offers a unique model compared to most Life Plan communities. In traditional communities, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing are typically located on-site, so residents can move into these facilities if they need care. At Brookland Commons, we focus on helping residents access quality medical care while bringing services directly into their apartments through partnerships with home care providers.
Unlike other Life Plan communities that often have high staffing levels to provide extensive services, Brookland Commons is focused on supporting residents to maintain as much independence as possible. We aim to build a strong sense of community where everyone plays a role in making things work. This helps keep staffing costs lower, while still providing professional support. Our team will be there to assist, but not to provide the level of service you might find at a hotel or resort.
The biggest difference at Brookland Commons is the type of residents we attract. Our community is for people who are looking for purposeful retirement, and who want to continue contributing and growing. We believe this approach not only creates a fulfilling community, but one that can be successful on many levels—not just in terms of affordability.
When can I move in?
The construction timeline will be determined by the success of the Expression of Interest Campaign but is anticipated to complete in late fall of 2027. This timeline is ideal for those making a plan for their futures without immediate needs.
